GIF – Grazer Impro Fest – Dienstag 27.08.2024

Das Schaumbad – Freies Atelierhaus Graz öffnet erneut seine Tore für das Ungeplante: Das zweite Grazer Impro Fest erwartet euch. Sieben Tage lang wird Haus und Natur für Künstler:innen, Kollektive und Neugierige freigeräumt. Alle sind eingeladen, mitzuklingen, zuzuhören, vorbeizuschauen oder einfach dort zu sein. Es gibt keine Grenzen, höchstens Perforationen an den erlernten Schwellen zwischen Performance und Publikum.
Und damit die Grenzen auch wirklich fernbleiben, breitet sich das Vielfältige aus – nicht nur beim Origami. Skaten, Musizieren und KI passen genauso zusammen wie Utopie und Kochen. Denn die Magic entsteht sowieso im gemeinsamen Tun und Nichtstun. Es ist genug Platz für laute wie auch stille Teilhabe. Apropos: Nichts geht über Partyzipation. Auch gefeiert wird gemeinsam, und zwar richtig schön improvisiert.

16:00 LECTURE: Ivar Krizic – K.I. und Improvisation, Extending an Instrument
Ein Instrument als Ausgangspunkt, mit all seinen historischen und kulturellen Implikationen, platziert in einem begrenzten materiellen Universum. Es zu erweitern bedeutet, seine klanglichen Möglichkeiten zu vergrößern, seine historische Entwicklung fortzusetzen, seinen Gebrauch zu verlängern und eine neue Perspektive auf das bereits Gehörte und Gesehene zu bieten. In der Lecture werden Techniken, Materialien und Technologien erforscht, die die Erweiterung eines Instruments ermöglichen – dadurch wird ein tieferes Verständnis für den kreativen Prozess angestoßen.
Ivar Roban Križić (*1990, Zagreb) studierte Kontrabass in Graz und absolviert in Wien ein künstlerisches Forschungsdoktorat mit Schwerpunkt auf der Epistemologie der freien Improvisation.

18:00 WORKSHOP: Cooky a.k.a. Catrin Manoli – „Skate or Cry“ – Piezomikrofone löten und shredden gehen!
Piezomikrofone sind Kontaktmikrofone. Sie verwenden Piezoelektrizität, um Schallwellen in elektrische Signale umzuwandeln. Manchmal kann man Piezoelektrizität auch in Feuerzeugen finden. Wir kleben die Mics auf Skates & Boards, um das Signal des Shreddens in Shreddern umzuwandeln. Synthesis durch Skaten. Das improvisierende Gehirn verwendet sowohl beim Skaten als auch beim Soundmachen die gleichen Strukturen.
Catrin Manoli a.k.a. Cooky absolvierte die Meisterklasse Bildhauerei und Malerei an der Ortweinschule in Graz und studiert Experimentelle Kunst in Linz.

20:00 GATHERING: Lluís Martinez – „I´m no astronaut“
Kontrapunkt zwischen Haushaltsgeräten und ihren Besitzern durch ein Verständnis der Komposition als Zwangsmaschine. Je starrer das Diktat, desto breiter das Ergebnis. Die Grenzen, die wir finden, und das Spiel, das ermöglicht wird. Seht das neue Orchester: das klangliche Universum! Und die Musiker: jeder und alles, was klingt! (Murray Schafer) Wir laden euch ein, eure Klänge außerhalb der Konvention des Instruments zu suchen. Bringt alle Gegenstände mit, die euch gefallen, und lasst uns gemeinsam ihre möglichen Klänge erforschen. Das Bad und die Küche sind voll. Bringt eure elektrischen Zahnbürsten mit!

Schaumbad – Freies Atelierhaus Graz is once again opening its doors to the unplanned: the second Graz Impro Fest awaits you. For seven days, the house and nature will be cleared for artists, collectives and the curious. Everyone is invited to join in, listen, drop by or simply be there. There are no boundaries, only perforations at the learned thresholds between performance and audience. And to ensure that the boundaries really do stay out of the way, diversity spreads – and not just in origami. Skating, making music and AI go together just as well as utopia and cooking. Because magic is created by doing and doing nothing together anyway. There is enough space for both loud and quiet participation. Speaking of which: nothing beats party participation. We also celebrate together, and in a really improvised way.

An instrument as a starting point, with all its historical and cultural implications, placed in a limited material universe. Extending it means increasing its sonic possibilities, continuing its historical development, prolonging its use and offering a new perspective on what has already been heard and seen. The lecture will explore techniques, materials and technologies that enable the extension of an instrument – thereby triggering a deeper understanding of the creative process.
Ivar Roban Križić (*1990, Zagreb) studied double bass in Graz and is completing an artistic research doctorate in Vienna with a focus on the epistemology of free improvisation.

06:00 PM WORKSHOP: Cooky a.k.a. Catrin Manoli – „Skate or Cry“ – Solder piezo microphones and go shredding!
Piezo microphones are contact microphones. They use piezoelectricity to convert sound waves into electrical signals. Sometimes you can also find piezoelectricity in lighters. We stick the mics on skates & boards to convert the signal of shredding into shredding. Synthesis through skating. The improvising brain uses the same structures both when skating and when making sound.
Catrin Manoli a.k.a. Cooky graduated from the master class of sculpture and painting at the Ortweinschule in Graz and studies experimental art in Linz.

Counterpoint between household appliances and their owners through an understanding of the composition as a coercive machine. The more rigid the dictate, the broader the result. The limits we find and the play that is made possible. Behold the new orchestra: the sonic universe! And the musicians: everyone and everything that sounds! (Murray Schafer) We invite you to search for your sounds outside the convention of the instrument. Bring any objects you like and let’s explore their possible sounds together. The bathroom and kitchen are full. Bring your electric toothbrushes!
