Ende August verwandelt sich das Schaumbad – Freies Atelierhaus Graz in ein utopisches Ressort der Sonderklasse und zelebriert das erste Grazer Impro Fest. Neun Tage lang checken inter-/nationale Künstler:innen und Kollektive und alle anderen Experimentierfreudigen zum gemeinsamen Improvisieren ein. Und das natürlich all inklusive: Es wird gesungen und getönt, Instrumente gebaut und musiziert, gekocht und vernetzt, performt und nach den theoretischen und strukturellen Voraussetzungen des perfekten Impro-Flows gesucht. Ein Angebot für Körper, Geist und Seele, mitten in der postindustriellen Naturbrache: Ist doch alles nur improvisiert.

TALK FKK (Kunstfreundeskreis) Reads, mit Seppo Gründler und Robert Lepenik »Improlonics«
Im Gegensatz zu den goldenen Zeiten der elektronischen Musik, in denen man ein komplettes Stockwerk brauchte, um elektronische Musik zu machen, würde heute ein 300 € Laptop ausreichen, um die kühnsten Träume der Pionier:innen der elektronischen Musik zu erfüllen. Trotzdem können Hemmnisse auch heute groß sein. Neben der Möglichkeit, den Klangraum jetzt auf alle möglichen Arten zu erkunden, bleiben die Fragen dieselben: Was sind die wichtigsten Parameter, die es in einem Live-Setup zu kontrollieren gilt. Wie geht man mit der Ästhetik um? Welche Möglichkeiten hat das Publikum wahrzunehmen, was wir tun?

Anhand ihrer laufenden Arbeit geben Eva Esmann Behrens und Margarethe Maierhofer-Lischka geben einen Einstieg in die hands-on Gestaltung von Audiovisuals und zeigen verschiedene Tools und Techniken, wie Körperbewegung und Berührung Teil eines interaktiven Instrumentariums werden kann. Dabei kommt u.A. die Software Isadora zum Einsatz, eine Mediensoftware von Künstler:inn für Künstler:innen, entwickelt vom Performer und Developer Mark Coniglio.

GATHERING Elektronische Instrumente, Host: Auto Sophia
Der Abend soll liebevoll an die in den vergangenen Jahren regelmäßig im Café Wolf stattfindende Impro-Session play-e-ground erinnern. Diese wurde initiiert, um einen Rahmen zu schaffen, in dem das Jammen und gemeinsame Improvisieren mit rein elektronischen Instrumenten erprobt wurde. Die Herausforderung dabei besteht in der Realtime-Interaktion und auch Klangverarbeitung, dem Begreifen von oft unbekannten Klangquellen und Klängen und ein Gefühl zu bekommen, wie diese musikalisch miteinander funktionieren können. Im Vordergrund steht dabei das aufmerksame Zuhören, sich gegenseitig Raum geben und das Experimentieren. Packt eure Laptops, Synthies, Gadgets und Toys ein!

At the end of August, Schaumbad – Freies Atelierhaus Graz turns into a utopian resort of a special kind and celebrates the first Graz Impro Fest. For nine days, inter/national artists and collectives and all other experimenters will check in – to improvise together. And, of course, all inclusive: there will be singing and sounding, building instruments and making music, cooking and networking, performing and searching for the theoretical and structural prerequisites of the perfect impro flow. An offer for body, mind and soul, in the middle of the post-industrial natural wasteland: It’s all just improvisation.

In contrast to the golden age of electronic music, when you needed a complete floor to make electronic music, today a 300 € laptop would be enough to fulfill the wildest dreams of the pioneer:s of electronic music. Nevertheless, obstacles can still be great today. Besides the possibility to explore the sound space in all possible ways now, the questions remain the same: What are the most important parameters to control in a live setup. How do you deal with aesthetics? What are the possibilities for the audience to perceive what we are doing?

Based on their ongoing work, Eva Esmann Behrens and Margarethe Maierhofer-Lischka give an introduction to hands-on design of audiovisuals and show different tools and techniques how body movement and touch can become part of an interactive instrumentarium.Among other things, the software Isadora will be used, a media software by artists for artists, developed by performer and developer Mark Coniglio.

The evening is intended as a loving reminder of the play-e-ground improvisation session that has been held regularly at Café Wolf in recent years.This was initiated to create a framework in which jamming and joint improvisation with purely electronic instruments was tried out. The challenge here is real-time interaction and also sound processing, grasping often unfamiliar sound sources and sounds and getting a feel for how they can work together musically. The focus is on listening carefully, giving each other space, and experimenting. Pack your laptops, synths, gadgets and toys!
