Ende August verwandelt sich das Schaumbad – Freies Atelierhaus Graz in ein utopisches Ressort der Sonderklasse und zelebriert das erste Grazer Impro Fest. Neun Tage lang checken inter-/nationale Künstler:innen und Kollektive und alle anderen Experimentierfreudigen zum gemeinsamen Improvisieren ein. Und das natürlich all inklusive: Es wird gesungen und getönt, Instrumente gebaut und musiziert, gekocht und vernetzt, performt und nach den theoretischen und strukturellen Voraussetzungen des perfekten Impro-Flows gesucht. Ein Angebot für Körper, Geist und Seele, mitten in der postindustriellen Naturbrache: Ist doch alles nur improvisiert.

WORKSHOP Denovaire »Außereuropäische Instrumente in Moderner Improvisation«
Von den Anden zu Mount Fuji! Im Rahmen eines 45-minütigen Workshops erkunden wir die Möglichkeiten der Einbringung. Der Rahmen eines »Worldmusic Jams« wird geweitet und in Richtung des Offenen verlassen. Ein zentraler Zugang moderner Impro ist die Auslotung klanglicher Spektren von Instrumenten. Wir wollen gemeinsam unsere Instrumente erforschen und die Wege zu abstrakter Improvisation offenlegen beziehungsweise Strategien dazu entwickeln. Ebenso sind die Teilnehmer:innen eingeladen, Klänge zu erforschen und sie im Hinblick auf Verwendbarkeit zu qualifizieren.

GATHERING Ethno-Musicology, Host: Chloé Ryo
Im Rahmen des Impro-Festes in Schaumbad wird dieser Abend einer einzigartigen künstlerischen Erfahrung zum Thema »Ethno« gewidmet sein. Dabei werden Klangbeispiele gehört die verschiedene kulturelle Elemente aus der ganzen Welt herbeirufen, darunter Gesänge, Rituale, gesprochene Sprachen und Klänge traditioneller Instrumente.

CONCERT mit Kamancheh
Die 1983 in Teheran geborene Saba Alizadeh ist eine unvergleichliche Persönlichkeit an der Spitze der zeitgenössischen iranischen Musik.
Alizadeh studierte anschließend experimentelle Klangpraktiken am Calarts in Los Angeles. Saba Alizadeh begann, seinen musikalischen Kosmos zu erweitern, indem er verschiedene Instrumente und Kompositionsmethoden einsetzte. Neben Kamancheh, No-Input-Mixer, modularen Synthesizer und Laptop die wichtigsten Instrumente, mit denen Alizadeh seinen Klangkosmos geschaffen hat.
Alizadeh verwendet auch viele manipulierte historische Tonaufnahmen und Feldaufnahmen in einer neo-musikalischen, konkreten Weise. Die Behandlung von Klang als Objekt hat Alizadeh schon immer fasziniert. „Scattered Memories“ ist Alizadehs Debütalbum, das im Februar 2019 bei Karl records (Berlin) erscheint und demnächst auch repressiert werden soll.“Alizadehs Beherrschung sowohl der traditionellen als auch der technischen Aspekte seiner Musik ist von Anfang an klar. Das Ergebnis ist eine wunderschön fragmentierte Erkundung des inneren Raums, die oft zwischen dem Kontemplativen und dem Neurotischen wandert“, schrieb Charlie Cawood in der Zeitschrift Songlines über Alizadehs Debütalbum. Er tritt seit seinem 18. Lebensjahr auf, er hat viele Kollaborationen und zahlreiche Auftritte absolviert. Die jüngste ist seine Zusammenarbeit mit Andreas Spechtl und wurde kürzlich zum Flow Festival (Helsinki) und Archipelago Festival (Reina Sofia Museum, Madrid) eingeladen. Alizadeh ist auch der Gründer von „Noise Works“, einer Plattform, die seit 2014 elektronische und experimentelle Musik und Aufführung elektronischer/experimenteller Musik.Saba ist auch ein international anerkannter Fotograf.

At the end of August, Schaumbad – Freies Atelierhaus Graz turns into a utopian resort of a special kind and celebrates the first Graz Impro Fest. For nine days, inter/national artists and collectives and all other experimenters will check in – to improvise together. And, of course, all inclusive: there will be singing and sounding, building instruments and making music, cooking and networking, performing and searching for the theoretical and structural prerequisites of the perfect impro flow. An offer for body, mind and soul, in the middle of the post-industrial natural wasteland: It’s all just improvisation.

From the Andes to Mount Fuji! In the context of a 45-minute workshop we explore the possibilities of bringing in. The framework of a „world music jam“ will be broadened and left in the direction of the open. A central approach of modern impro is to explore sonic spectrums of instruments. We want to explore our instruments together and reveal the paths to abstract improvisation or develop strategies for it. Participants are also invited to explore sounds and qualify them in terms of usability.

GATHERING Ethno-Musicology, Host: Chloé Ryo
As part of the Impro Festival in Schaumbad, this evening will be dedicated to a unique artistic experience on the theme of „Ethno“. Sound samples will be heard that evoke various cultural elements from around the world, including chants, rituals, spoken languages and sounds of traditional instruments.

CONCERT with Kamancheh
Born in Tehran in 1983, Saba Alizadeh is an incomparable figure at the forefront of contemporary Iranian music.Alizadeh went on to study experimental sound practices at Calarts in Los Angeles. Saba Alizadeh began to expand his musical cosmos by using different instruments and compositional methods. Besides Kamancheh, no-input mixer, modular synthesizer and laptop the main instruments Alizadeh used to create his sound cosmos.Alizadeh also uses many manipulated historical sound recordings and field recordings in a neo-musical, concrete way. Treating sound as an object has always fascinated Alizadeh. „Scattered Memories“ is Alizadeh’s debut album, due for release in February 2019 on Karl records (Berlin), and soon to be repressed. „Alizadeh’s mastery of both the traditional and technical aspects of his music is clear from the start.The result is a beautifully fragmented exploration of inner space that often wanders between the contemplative and the neurotic,“ Charlie Cawood wrote of Alizadeh’s debut album in Songlines magazine.He has been performing since the age of 18, and has had many collaborations and numerous performances. The most recent is his collaboration with Andreas Spechtl and was recently invited to the Flow Festival (Helsinki) and Archipelago Festival (Reina Sofia Museum, Madrid).Alizadeh is also the founder of „Noise Works“, a platform that has been creating electronic and experimental music and performing electronic/experimental music since 2014.Saba is also an internationally recognized photographer.
