Ende August verwandelt sich das Schaumbad – Freies Atelierhaus Graz in ein utopisches Ressort der Sonderklasse und zelebriert das erste Grazer Impro Fest. Neun Tage lang checken inter-/nationale Künstler:innen und Kollektive und alle anderen Experimentierfreudigen zum gemeinsamen Improvisieren ein. Und das natürlich all inklusive: Es wird gesungen und getönt, Instrumente gebaut und musiziert, gekocht und vernetzt, performt und nach den theoretischen und strukturellen Voraussetzungen des perfekten Impro-Flows gesucht. Ein Angebot für Körper, Geist und Seele, mitten in der postindustriellen Naturbrache: Ist doch alles nur improvisiert.

Improvisation und Kreation in interdisziplinären, interkulturellen Kontexten. Das Auge entscheidet oft anders als das Ohr. Dort, wo die Seh- und Hörneigungen andere Entscheidungen und Fragen aufwerfen, wird der Medienwechsel zum Ideenkatalysator. In den Zwischenräumen und Randzonen der Medien und Disziplinen eröffnen sich neue Denk-und Schaffensräume – hier entsteht Erneuerungspotenzial.

WORKSHOP Kalimba Bauworkshop von Yuri Landman
Die Kalimba ist ein traditionelles, afrikanisches, akustisches Instrument. Im Quickstep Kalimba-Workshop wird eine elektronische Version des afrikanischen Instruments gebaut. Diese Variante kann man an jeden Verstärker anschließen und bei Live-Auftritten verwenden. Man kann sie sehr gut in Kombination mit Effektpedalen wie Reverb und Delay verwenden. Die originale Kalimba hat eine feste Stimmung in einer Tonart. 2019 hat Yuri einen anpassungsfähigen Stimmmechanismus erfunden, mit dem deine Kalimba in jede beliebige Tonart oder Skala gedreht werden kann, was die Kombination mit Gitarre/Piano für reguläre Songs praktischer macht. Du experimentierst und machst deine eigene Stimmung oder spielst Glissandos mit ihr. Kosten 75 € (inkl. Material)

At the end of August, Schaumbad – Freies Atelierhaus Graz turns into a utopian resort of a special kind and celebrates the first Graz Impro Fest. For nine days, inter/national artists and collectives and all other experimenters will check in – to improvise together. And, of course, all inclusive: there will be singing and sounding, building instruments and making music, cooking and networking, performing and searching for the theoretical and structural prerequisites of the perfect impro flow. An offer for body, mind and soul, in the middle of the post-industrial natural wasteland: It’s all just improvisation.

Improvisation and creation in interdisciplinary, intercultural contexts. The eye often decides differently than the ear. Where the inclinations of sight and hearing raise other decisions and questions, the change of media becomes a catalyst for ideas. In the interstices and marginal zones of media and disciplines, new spaces for thinking and creating open up – this is where the potential for renewal arises.

WORKSHOP Kalimba Building Workshop with Yuri Landman
The kalimba is a traditional African acoustic instrument. In the Quickstep Kalimba workshop, an electronic version of the African instrument is built. This version can be connected to any amplifier and used in live performances. You can use it very well in combination with effect pedals like reverb and delay. The original kalimba has a fixed tuning in one key. In 2019, Yuri invented an adaptable tuning mechanism that allows your kalimba to be turned to any key or scale, making it more practical to combine with guitar/piano for regular songs. You’ll experiment and make your own tuning or play glissandos with it. Costs 75 € (material included)
